Tomatoes
I say tomato you say tomato. Gotta have tomatoes (or tomatoes if you pronounce them differently). I really want another go at the Amish Paste tomatoes I tried to grow last year. Along with them I’ve got a couple of others to try, all bought from Real Seeds.
Amish Paste
These are supposed to be big. As the photo shows, a slice filling a whole piece of toast. These are supposed to be excellent for making sauces, exactly what I want them for. Last year I tried growing these. It was so difficult in the crappy weather we were having which made it so wet they were bound to get blight. To make matters worse I planted all the tomatoes far to close together which caused them to shade each other and the fell over in the wind. I didn’t get anything from any of the tomato plants that year. This year, apart from hoping for sunny weather, I’ll be planting them with plenty of space and support, get lots of air around them and lets see.
Pink Tomatoes – “Rose de Berne”
The tall vines make glowing-pink tomatoes. The fruit are quite large, but not quite as big as a ‘beefsteak’ type. It is a high yielding, juicy, and particularly tasty variety from the continent with very heavy trusses giving crops of several pounds per vine!
Its going to be really interesting to see how pink these tomatoes really come out. They sound like a really safe bet for some interesting and tasty tomatoes.
Yellow Cherry Centiflor Tomatoes – “Millefleur”
I’ve never see anything like this, I can’t wait to see how this works. “A whole new class of tomato with a unique structure: the highly branched trusses have literally hundreds and hundreds of flowers on them“. They look great and will hopefully give us a huge supply of yellow snack tomatoes.
Reisetomate’ Pocketbook Vine Tomato
I think I have a couple of these seeds left from last year. If there is space and seeds then I’ll try growing these again. Same thing as the Amish Paste, the blight, weather and overcrowding got them, but they seemed to grow quite well. Never got to see what the tomatoes looked like for real. Maybe this year.
Like the with the beans, I’ve got a good idea for a support I can make for the beans, peas and the tomatoes. Hopefully it’ll be fairly easy to make and give all these plants the different support types they need.
