Squash-i
Along with the pumpkins we are growing some squashes. The same reasons apply about the lack of ableness to buy such things, generally, and the boring lack of variety available too. Butternut Squash or go to hell. While butternut squashes (squash-i) are all well and good, they tend to get a bit small and expensive in the shops. While I wonder if I should have tried growing my own to see how easy they are and what their taste would be like, I thought I’d try two other squash to see how others look and taste.
Green Tasty ones – ‘Burgess Buttercup’
These are supposed to be pretty tasty; strong, very sweet orange flesh and a winter variety. Um, ok so I’m not entirely sure what that means.. probably that it’ll be ready to eat in the winter, which would be excellent. This is basically my attempt at a squash version of the green tasty pumpkin, so we’ll see how pumpkin and squash compare.
Pinky, Salmon One – French Heirloom Galeux D’Eysines
Not really sure what colour exactly these are going to come out as, but look at them! Fantastic warty pinky-ness. They remind me of some kind of gold jewel encrusted egg. Anyway, I’m sure the picture does nothing to represent what we might get from these, but this will certainly be great to watch grow.
Again, the other experiment with the squash will be where we grow them, in amongst the corn!
