MMmmmmm… Strawberries!
Strawberries Flowering

The strawberries are looking really happy in their straw bed. The plants have started to grow bigger and taller leaves and the first of the flowers have appeared. It wont be long now till the first of the strawberries begins to show. I’ve always thought strawberry flowers look great. I don’t know if its there simple beauty, or that I know that strawberry flowers mean strawberries! Yum.
Strawberry Clean Up

We took at look at the strawberries and realised that the black sheet ground cover was doing them no good. Some had been pulled out and some had actually started putting roots through it! So we set about removing it for this year. After doing so and replanting everything looks so much cleaner and clearer. On the left are the strawberry plants from last year and the on right the new plants we’ve planted from their runners. Its all looking good and in a few weeks we’ll take another photo and show what difference this clean up has made. With the black sheeting gone, maybe we’ll have to think about getting some straw for the strawberries this year?
